Today, if you notice a dug-up section all along a part of Venkatesa Agraharam Street in Mylapore, the mess has been created by a contractor hired by an internet services company.
Well past midnight, the workmen started digging a section of this road to lay the cables from Canal Bank Road end, beyond Sai Baba temple side, towards a point off Karpagambal Kapaleeswarar Kalyana Mandapam.
When we noticed this work, we asked the staff at the work spot to show a copy of the official permission letter from GCC to undertake the work but the men could not produce one.
They shared their supervisor’s phone number; we dialled it but there was no response.
As a result of the private work, mud and sand is seen all around the excavated area of the busy road.
