Students of St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Hr. Sec. School, San Thome led a public campaign this week to speak against use of drugs and raise awareness of the dangers that drugs posed to young people.
Held this past week, the event began with the formation of a ‘human chain’ of the members of the Scouts community of the school on the pavement alongside the school campus.
Fr. Y. L. Irudayaraj, school headmaster and Fr. Sagayaraj Devadoss, rector and correspondent, addressed the students. Also present was Fr. Lourdusamy Susai.
For the next 30 minutes, students took turns to shout slogans and hold up a variety of placards and banners, all made by them. All this took place even as the morning peak hour traffic rolled down San Thome High Road.
The school said that over 300 students drawn from the groups of Scouts, Cubs, Junior Red Cross, and Green Army took part in this event.
