First design of pets-friendly park in Alwarpet is out. But owners of pets raise some issues

The first design of a Pets-friendly Park of Chennai Corporation to be created in the place of the D’Monte Colony park in Alwarpet has been put out. The park is located off TTK Road in the middle of an abandoned colony.

A social media post that popped up today, showed people explaining the design of the park to the Mylapore MLA, Dha Velu and local ward councillor Saraswathy

This project was mooted last year but was put in the freezer.

The intention of setting up such a park was to draw people who have pets like dogs to a space where they could walk them around and let the dogs have some easy time too.

The design for the pets-friendly park shows a dogs shelter zone and a pets play area.

The standard design of a park remains – with walkways, water and toilet zones, kids play area and gazebos, besides landscaped areas in the park.

But people who are keen about such a park and own pets have some questions to share –

  • will there be a trained pets trainer / manager to keep an eye on dogs and the people who bring them to this park?
  • what secure measures will be in place in such a park?
  • what is the function of a dogs shelter shown in the design?
  • is it prudent to allow people of the area and around who just want to walk, unwind or sit and converse inside such a park or must the park be one exclusively for pets ( and their owners)

  1. The idea of a pets-friendly park in Alwarpet is a great initiative by Chennai Corporation! Providing a dedicated space for pets and their owners enhances community bonding. Hope the design includes proper safety, hygiene, and play areas. Looking forward to seeing this park become a reality for pet lovers! 🐶🌳
