Queen Mary’s College held its 109th annual Sports Day recently. The chief guest, Meghanathan Reddy, CEO and member-secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, hoisted the flag and took the salute during the impressive march past by students from 20-plus departments.
Dr. B. Uma Maheshwari, principal of the college was present.
C. Amudha, international triathlon athlete, and now a superintendent of GST and Central Excise, and an alumna of the college was a special guest.
Dr. V. Sujitha, director of physical Education, presented the sports annual report, highlighting the achievements of the college’s athletes and campus sports initiatives.
Students took turns to present demonstrations of karate, silambam, yoga, Pencak Silat, and Zumba aerobic fitness dance. Sujitha said that these sports skills of the students reflect the college’s commitment to holistic fitness and traditional martial arts.
The buzz got high around the campus during the prize distribution ceremony when outstanding athletes were honoured for their dedication and excellence.
