Suriya Sweets, a popular store in R A Puram got up a vibrant, colourful Pongal celebration outside its premises.
There were colourful kolams, vazhai thoranams, and even a cow and a calf around; the store’s staff were dressed for the occasion.
Karumbu charu was served to guests as a welcome drink. even as the staff enjoyed the ‘uri adi’ sport on the side.
Games like musical-chairs and lemon and spoon race and bun-eating contest followed. These amused the guests and kept the staff engaged and light.
The highlight was the kummi dance presented by the women staff at Suriya Sweets.
Sakkarai pongal, venn pongal and ezhu kari kootu was cooked in earthen pots in spaces that resembled a rural courtyard at Pongal time.
Kamadhenu and gho poujas were conducted, with guests invited to join the rituals.
Sakkarai and venn pongal and kootu was served to all the guests who went home with Suriya’s thamboolam bag.
