R Nagarajan, 86, former Chief General Manager, State Bank of India and former President of SBIPA (CC) passed away on January 7.
He is survived by his wife Visalakshi and sons – Karthikeyan and Krishnan.
“My father was a people’s person. He helped people get admissions in schools and colleges. He also helped many get jobs. Helping others was an integral part of his life. His greatest quality was that he would never use harsh words to anyone even if he was angry,” says Karthikeyan, his son.
\Nagarajan was born in Kattumannar Kovil in 1938. He studied in various places like Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi and Villupuram, as his father was a court employee and had a transferable job.
He obtained the B.Com (Honours) degree from Annamalai University in 1959.
“My father gave both the bank exam and UPSC, passed both exams but since the bank offer came first, he took it up. He has served State Bank of India branches in various places like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Chennai and Trivandram. He has also served in the North East as General Manager. He served as CGM – Chennai circle before retiring,” adds Karthikeyan.
Nagarajan has held directorship positions in companies and has also been a corporate consultant, post-retirement. He was also a trustee of the Indian Bank Mutual Fund. At 75, he gave up these roles and started spending more time with the family.
Karthikeyan fondly remembers his father’s favourite food items to be curd rice, roasted papad and wheat halwa.
