Mylapore Festival 2025: Day One opens with kutcheri inside Sri Kapali Temple

Day One of the annual Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival started on the now traditional note – a kutcheri. This year though, at the launch on January 9, the concert was held in the Navaratri mantapam inside Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, moving out of Nageswara Rao Park, Luz.

The concert was presented by the students of Meenakshi Srinivasan ofd Mandaveli.

That evening, there were three events at the Main Stage arena – Sannidhi Street quadrangle.

Nagaswaram, choral music and a dance drama themed on poet-writer-freedom fighter Subramania Bharathiyar, perfomed by members of the Rukminidevi Natyakshetra Foundation, with Premnath directing the show.

The main shows had to end at about 8 p.m.  since a procession from the temple was scheduled for that time.

But the Food Street was abuzz; nine stalls there. Snacks of Maharastra and Mumbai, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The Festival has worked around the temple events and processions, making time and space for these even while employing the temporary stage set up in the zone for its shows.
