Festival shopping is made easy by hawkers in a place like the mada veedhis around Sri Kapali Temple in Mylapore. But the prices of some key goods can be stiff.
On the eve of Pongal and on Pongal festival day, hawkers were at their posts – selling thoranams, plain and painted earthen pots, manjal, mango leaves and sugar cane.
At Rs.130/ Rs.140 for a set of sugarcane, some shoppers said the prices were stiff and chose to bide their time to buy cane.
Early morning shoppers though got the best on sale, and shopping was a breeze.
A limited number of hawker stalls in Mandaveli Street side, loaded with pots, thoranams, coloured powder to create Rangolis also targeted festival shoppers.
