Traffic on three roads leading to the clock tower island on Kamaraj Salai, Mylapore will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. onwards today, December 31.
This restriction will be enforced to enable people to gather at the clock tower island and celebrate the first moments of the new year.
Traffic from the QMC and VIvekananda Illam side, from San Thome High Road side and from Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai side will be curtailed at points where cars and bikes can take other roads and head to their destination.
There will be substantial police security in this zone opposite the Gandhi statue and TN Police Headquarters campus.
People will be discouraged from being on the Marina sands after 9 p.m. and those who wish to be at the New Year celebration, will have to walk to the clock tower island which is usually illuminated for the occasion.
