Sanjay Subrahmanyam’s book on his music and his journey had a soft release before his concert on Sunday evening at The Music Academy. Just sales; the artiste was not involved.
Titled ‘On That Note; Memories of a Life in Music’ and written with writer Krupa Ge, the news of the soft book release alert as shared by the celebrated vocalist just hours before the concert which is an annual one where he sings only Tamil songs.
Co-author Krupa Ge is a Chennai-based writer and author.
Even as rasikas queued in the Academy lobby to get into the auditorium on Sunday, Higginbothams executives were unsure how they would display and sell Sanjay’s books here.
But once the display was ready, his fans bought copies and some made plans to grab San jay’s attention backstage and get him to sign the book.
But it was the concert first. And as one rasika put it – A total fanboy moment when he included a jolly ode to Raja ( composer Ilaiaya Raja) with the lyrics “Isaiyai malaraai naaLum sootuven” in his RTP & the mandatory Viduthalai 2 ( film) touch. A fantastic concert that was hit out of the park to begin the season.
‘On that Note’ has been a popular online mini-series where Sanjay has strung anecdotes to a song or raga he talks about, to share his musical experience, linking up with past maestros and gurus.
This book is autobiographical; it is now on sale on Amazon – amzn.in/d/aM35zvF
