Obituary: T. N. Krishnamurthy; GCC senior staff, R. A. Puram elder

T. N. Krishnamurthy, 99, passed away on December 5.

Hailing from Periyakulam, a town at the foothills of Kodaikanal, he moved to Chennai in 1947. He was the sanitary inspector at the Corporation of Madras, now GCC, and retired in 1983.

Krishnamurthy was one of the early residents of Raja Annamalai Puram. He moved there in 1965 by buying a plot of land from the c-ooperative society.

His birthday was on November 14.

“My father was the first person to donate for the daily pooja scheme of the Siddhi Buddhi Sametha Karpaga Vinayagar Temple at R. A. Puram. He used to go to work on his bicycle. He used to go to Sembiam, Triplicane and Mylapore areas by bicycle.  This was the secret behind his long life and reason for a quiet, natural death,” says Padma Ravishankar, his daughter who works as a librarian at Chettinad Harishree Vidyalayam.

Krishnamurthy was a close friend of actor Poornam Viswanathan. The actor released a book written by Krishnamurthy on the occasion of Krishnamurthy’s sathabhishekam. The book was titled – A compilation of articles written by T N Krishnamurthy.

Krishnamurthy had a keen interest in music and used to go to kutcheries, adds Padma.

The family lived on 5th Main Road R A Puram.  His daughter, Padma Ravishankar can be contacted at 9884910980
