Trees swayed like spirited beings. Billboards shivered and crackled and signboards on pavements went for a big toss.
Cyclone Fengal’s effect on the Mylapore zone was as sever as it was in the rest of the city on Saturday evening. Mylaporeans locked themselves up and stayed tight at home.
At noon, there were some people on the shores of the Marina, gazing at the raging sea; a sight so different and yet, posing some danger to those who could mis some steps.
That evening, Mylapore zone had not seen anything like the rage of a cyclone for sometime and as the winds roared for close to two hours, it was an experience for all those who have not witnessed such weather.
In a few areas, trees collapsed or slanted across streets. In some places, signboards were torn apart and spread on the streetside.
The rain was steady; in some areas, like in Venus Colony, water stagnated and flooded and entered compounds despite the GCC-hired pumpsets at work, bailing out water.
But in areas like Jeth Nagar, there was praise for the GCC’s work; none of the streets saw flooding.
And when Fengal’s effect had faded, there was a strange quietness around and a few people walked out to survey the scene around them past 9 p.m..
And as people slept in 25 degrees weather, the rain had stopped.
When they woke up on Sunday, it was all quiet and in many areas, no sign of any rainwater.
