Christmas spirit reigns high in and around San Thome Cathedral

San Thome turned into a buzz zone on Christmas eve as churches and schools held up illuminations and people headed to midnight Holy Masses.

The early Masses began at about 10.30 p.m. – at the auditorium of  St Bede’s School, an English Mass was celebrated.

The big bizz though was at the St Thomas Cathedral in San Thome where people streamed in as early as 9 p.m.l to look around and admire the decorations, the giant lit Christmas tree and the church.

The Tamil Mass at 11.30, with carols concerts preceding it, was celebrated by archbishop Rev. George Antonysamy.

The campus was packed with families; and after Mass, as cakes and greetings were shared, the mood of Christmas spread.

Other churches in the Mylapore zone also had midnight Masses; services at CSI churches were to start after 4 a.m.

Masses will be said at churches through Christmas morning.
