Waste collection drive in R. K. Nagar: community-driven effort

By V. A. Amithaneyan / Student Reporter

A waste collection drive happened in R. K. Nagar on the weekend of Oct. 26 and 27.  Of the waste given here were clothes, plastics and broken glass.

“Our aim is to not create more landfills,” said volunteer Swetha.

They give the used clothes to needy people. And fresh clothes are put into the laundry and sold at the Thrift store, in T.Nagar.

Tetra packs are made into chairs, tables and pencil stands. Another project, called Malar, is to recycle used flowers into incense sticks, candle perfumes.

The plastic is segregated into soft plastic and hard plastic.
