Obituary: Radha Venkatakrishnan, 84, helped found temples in R. A. Puram

Radha Venkatakrishnan, 84, passed away on November 14.

A resident of Krishnapuri colony, R A Puram for 55 years, Radha mami, as she was fondly called, hosted bhajan sessions at her home regularly.

She spent her early childhood days in Thrissur, where she attended Vivekodayam school. She married T. R Venkatakrishnan in 1960 and spent several years in Bilaspur and Kota before moving to Chennai.

Venkatakrishnan retired as director at Best & Crompton, having worked there for 35 years.

Radha and her husband was pivotal in establishing the Krishna and Vinayagar temple in Krishnapuri Colony.

“My mother loved crochet, knitting and Tanjore painting. She also enjoyed reciting slokas. Yoga was also an important aspect of her life. She was deeply religious and visiting temples in and around Mylapore and RA Puram were part of her routine. Sukhanivas, Mylapore was her favourite eatery,” says Dr T V Ramakrishnan, her son.

“She cooked very well and Mysore Pak was the dish she made the best. She was a beloved resident of Krishnapuri and will be missed by the residents as much as the family, “ he adds.

Radha is survived by her son Dr. T. V. Ramakrishnan, daughter in law Dr Ramya, her daughter Geetha Vijayan, son-in-law Gopal Vijayan, daughter Uma Venkatakrishnan and son-in-law Rajiv Ramaswami, and her grandchildren.
