A ‘Sunday for people with special abilities’ was observed on October 20 at CSI St. Thomas English Church in San Thome.
Students from the nearby CSI School for the Deaf and CSI School for Autism participated in the morning worship service and performed a choreography.
The church community is an inclusive and welcoming one, and this was evident in how differently-abled members from the congregation also played an active role in the service on Sunday.
Members from ‘Mission to the Blind’ – a Christian organization that works among the visually challenged people in India with a goal to bring them into the mainstream – also joined the worship, to share their experiences.
A Jaikumar, the national executive director of Mission to the Blind preached a sermon on ‘Dignity and dependence’.
Bags, purses, pillowcases, fridge covers and other articles made at the Mission to the Blind’s vocational training centre at Madhavaram were on sale after the morning service.
