Share your Shanthi Vihar story

Jambu’s memory video on Shanthi Vihar restaurant in last week’s edition of Mylapore Times, is bringing in many threads of people’s own memories of this place.

Suresh says its thayir vadai was out of the world, Shyamala recalls time of she and her bank colleagues hanging out and Anjana recalls how, as a young bride new to Madras, her husband treated her here.

MYLAPORE TIMES wants to build on this thread and seeks more such stories from people who had an experience here.

  1. My appreciation to Mylapore Times for keeping memories alive for those living far away. In the early ’70s, Shanthi vihar’s RAVA dhosai was so tasty, as were their meals. It was a classier alternative to Sukha Nivas on Luz church rd, and better than the ‘states’ hotel just past the circle on RK mutt rd.

  2. Living in Mylapore from the 60s to the 80s and not going to Shanti Vihar is unthinkable. The smell of Bombay sambaar along with steaming hot idlis at very affordable costs, evokes nostalgic memories. When they opened a north indian section with Rasa Malai and Aloo Tikki were instant hits. Finger licking savories!
