A few TANGEDCO transformers / distribution boxes are at ground level on Justice Sundaram Road and this is stalling work on the much-delayed SWD drain here. Also, only one-phase power supply is messing up residents’ lives.
Since two of the junction boxes lie in the path of SWD, they require lifting to a higher level.
Neither the Ward 123 councillor nor the Mylapore MLA have met with any success in getting the local TANGEDCO staff to do address the issue for the past two months, said a resident.
Only one phase of power has been working in most residential complexes for weeks now.
Lifts don’t work with one working phase and with many senior citizens residing here, a non-working lift makes it impossible for people to gain access or rush during emergencies.
Despite complaining about power issues directly to TANGEDCO’s Luz office or through Minnagam App, the plaints almost always get closed without any resolution.
Where the lineman turns up, most of the time, bribe gets asked for any repair, charged one resident.
In cases of major problems, residents have spent in thousands to get alternative cables because the stock reply is that the supply of cable will be delayed and the residents have to wait for the power restoration.
There have been power surges in incoming lines and there is a constant worry that electrical equipment will get damaged despite fuse boxes.
With no or less power for days, residents here say it is impossible to pump water to an overhead tank and some residents are moving to alternate accommodation elsewhere.
