Senior citizen and head of the Chennai kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, K N Ramaswamy moved out of his first floor apartment on Brindavan Street ( off R H Road) this noon ( Oct.15) because his washroom outpipe was clogged and basement was flooding.
“It is a bad situation and it is the same that we all experienced last monsoon,” said Ramaswamy from his temporary stay at the Bhavan’s guest room in Mylapore.
He said that though his street and Balakrishnan Road were wet after the night rains, it began to flood following the persistent rainfall after 10 am today.
“Water wasn’t flushing down my toilet and the groundwater is oozing out in our basement and this may affect the power board,” he said.
He said that storm water drains here have not been able to carry water to the Canal while the R H Road is relatively dry.
Last year, many households here lost furniture, white goods and more to the flooding and did not get any compensation from the state.
