On Monday, Sept.9, tension prevailed in Mandaveli opposite MTC bus depot as many women from the neighbourhood staged a protest against the newly opened state-run liquor sales shop here.
This shop was opened three days ago but does not have a signboard yet.
Women who reside in the areas around this shop gathered around noon and started the agitation.
Police were summoned immediately and after talking to the women managed to disperse the crowd.
A few policemen have been posted around the shop zone.
In the past, the state was forced to shut down two TASMAC shops in Mylapore zone, with only one, located off the Thirumylai rail station in business. That too was shut down when Chennai Metro work began here.
