Specially-abled Deepak offers bags and diyas for fest season. Prices start at Rs.25

Shoba Shanmugan and her specially-abled son S. Deepak, residents of Lazarus Church Road, keep coming up with items which can be sold at festival time.

For Navaratri, their latest product is the tote bag made of gada cloth material which can be used for shopping and gifting.

“We have four sizes of these bags. My son Deepak does acrylic painting on the bags.  We also make customized orders for a minimum order of 10. The bags are made after the order is placed,” says Shoba, a determined mother who wants to make her son independent.

The bags cost Rs 25, Rs 50, Rs 75 and Rs 100, depending on the size.

Supported by his mother, Deepak also makes painted diyas, masala podis and natural insecticide made with country drugs like vasambu and pacha karpooram can be used in wardrobes.

 “These packets costing Rs 40/- will last for three months,” says Shoba.

Their other products include painted earthen diyas with candle, ghee or plain ones and painted pots which can be used for pooja, garden and fancy display.
