The community of CSI St. Thomas English Church at San Thome came together to celebrate the annual Thanksgiving Festival on Sunday, September 3.
A highly anticipated event, the day began with a special thanksgiving service of Holy Communion with Rev. Anitha Christian as the celebrant, followed by the inauguration of the ATF sale by Commander S S Kumar (retd.) a member of the parish.
Guided by the convenors of the sale – Dr. Caroline Priya, Emmanuel Shanthakumar, Gilfred Sam Chandrakumar and Ezhil Rohan – the congregation participated enthusiastically by setting up a variety of stalls – from eatables and homemade goodies to household items.
From little Melki’s homemade Mojitos in six exciting flavours to Porca & Vaca’s juicy pork ribs the spread was big and inviting.
The various fellowships of the church – women, men, Sunday school, youth and Rapha (healing ministry) also had stalls that sold homemade snacks and eatables. There were family stalls too, like the Sathyanesans’ melt-in-the-mouth chicken Mayo sandwiches, double chocolate chip brownie cake, chicken kurma and idiyappam with iced lemon tea and the Dhyriams with their beef cutlets and other breakfast options.
The live counters – for waffles and pizzas – by Caroline Roopsingh – were also abuzz
The Thanksgiving ‘wall of gratitude’ was a hit especially with the youngsters, who posted stick-it notes on the many things they were thankful for, including whacky ones like, ‘I thank God for cheese!’
There was plenty of activity to keep everyone entertained. Annamary Frederick’s quiz on Bible riddles, a couples contest by Emmanuel, Tambola by Sushil Venglet and the Treasure Hunt kept everyone active.
The grand finale was a tug-of-war between the youth and adults, with the rope snapping, leading to a hilarious result!
The proceeds of the Thanksgiving sale will be used to support rural churches and for building a new parish hall
