September 21 is ‘World Alzheimer Day’. So the neurology department of Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet conducted a workshop-contest on kolam.
This was an to create an awareness that designing kolams can be ‘therapy’ for patients with Alzheimer’s.
Neurologist Dr. Bhuvaneshwari spoke on the importance of socialising by and conversations with senior citizens which helps to keep the brain active and slowing down Alzheimer.
Then, kolam specialist, Dr. Gayathri Shankarnarayanan spoke on the unsung benefits of kolam and how this art can be employed for seniors as it re-activates the brain.
Then there was a kolam contest for guests of the meet. People were awarded.
