Deputy Mayor and GCC commissioner visit Luz zone. Review stormwater drains work

Deputy Mayor Mahesh Kumar and GCC commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran were at Nageswara Rao Park in Luz this Friday morning ( Sept.13) to study the steps taken to build new drains to address monsoon issues later this year.

They were joined by Mylapore MLA Dha Velu and councillor Saraswathy.

The commissioner, using maps and data sheets, explained the steps that GCC is taking to construct new drains that will handle the rainwater flow in areas like Luz and the park zone, East Abiramapuram, P S Sivaswamy Salai and around.

He explained that since sections of the existing drains had either collapsed or were rendered unusable due to Chennai Metro construction in many areas of Mylapore, new drains had to be built and that Chennai Metro had deposited money meant for this purpose. The drains will lead the floodwater into the Buckingham Canal.

But this team did not tour Justice Sundaram Road where work has been messy and has frustrated residents who are holding a meeting this weekend to discuss issues and take them to the GCC.
