Sri Krishna jayanthi celebrations were grand at Sri Nandalala Cultural Centre on Dr Ranga Road, Mylapore for three days.
The events included Balakrishna pada pooja, kalyana utsavam, special alankaram of the utsavar, kutcheri, gho pooja, amritham kadaithai, special thirumanjanam, Krishna janana vaibhavam and darshan.
“We gave the name of sarva palaka (meaning, the protector of all) to the lord this time. People could rock the cradle in a symbolic manner,” said S. Vishwanathan, trustee of the Centre.
The deity had muthangi alangaram (made of pearls) and on the ori adi day, he was dressed in white.
12 people including devotees and trustees spent two days to complete the decoration. 2500 packets of butter wrapped in betel leaves and 3000 ladoos were made for the Krishna janmashtami day and distributed to devotees.
“From now on, we plan to have Srinivasa Kalyanam every Sunday and the chariot procession on every rohini nakshatra. The churning of the curd will be held on every ashtami and navami days,” said Vishwanathan.
