Multi-lingual theatre festival from August 5 to 9. Hosted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan will host the second edition of its multi-lingual theatre festival  from August 5 to 9.

Encouraged by the success of its inaugural fest, this year’s festival also features plays in different languages including Thamizh.

One evening is dedicated to a string of short plays. This year, the plays will be in Thamizh, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English.

Here are the plays lined up for the festival – 

Malayalam: “Niyamavarthanam”. Written & directed by Rahul Thomas, Duration: 75mins.
Set in a Catholic Christian family in Kerala, the play tries to raise questions about the concept of faith, morality and sin. It explores the relationship between religious dogmatism and the autonomy of women.

Kannada: “Prameelarjuneeyam”. Director: Megha Sameera. Duration: 2 hours
This play is a Kannada adaptation of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. The text equates the story of Pramila Arjuna in Mahabharata and Shakespeare’s play. The lives of the characters who come into it create a unique illusion. This play touches on human dreams, imagination and on reality in an entertaining style,
and follows an experimental style of modern theatre by using the dances of Yakshagana.

Tamil: “Sikkal Sivaraman” Written and directed by S L Naanu Duration: 90 mins
Synopsis: Life often throws challenges and obstacles in our way, and it can seem like it’s all
about dealing with problems. Sivaraman is in the middle of all the action and his words and actions make you laugh and ponder. Stars Kathadi Ramamurthy in the lead.

Hinglish (Hindi & English): “Marry Go Round” Playwright: Rajat Mishra, Direction:
Hitesh Verma & Varshiki Jethwani. Duration: 100 mins.
Synopsis: In the heart of Bangalore, the lively cityscape becomes the backdrop for the
uproarious comedy – the zany plot centres around an unsuspecting individual leading a double life. Set against the dynamic neighbourhoods of Whitefield and Marathahalli, the narrative takes unexpected turns as the protagonist finds himself entangled in a web of hilarious misunderstandings. The play looks at the intricacies of modern
living in a bustling Indian metro.

English: Dramathon ; Six short plays by various troupes and directors. Different genres and themes and formats. Many are experiments with different styles – through comedy, drama, fantasy . . .

The festival is open to all.
