G. Narendra and Avigna Dance Ensemble to perform Aug.10 evening. Event in memory of N. Pattabhi Raman, founder of Sruti

The Sruti Foundation is presenting a special dance recital titled, Rasa-anubhava, featuring members of Avigna Dance Ensemble, under the artistic direction of G. Narendra.

This performance will take place on Saturday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Narada Gana Sabha hall. This event is held in memory of N. Pattabhi Raman, founder of Sruti.

The Avigna Dance Ensemble, based in Chennai, has gained international recognition for its innovative choreography and vivid presentations. Under the guidance of G. Narendra, Deepa and K. Mahalakshmi, Avigna has performed at prestigious venues worldwide.

Narendra says the Rasaanubhava recital will present the Siva navarasa through many stories, a dance piece themed on a Marathi abhang, a special piece that is based on a song sung by vidushi Bombay Jayashri and a rare tillana composition of vidwan M. Balamuralikrishna.

“We have worked on the tillana to give more space for music of instrumentalists, which in turn inspires the dance,” says Narendra.

This is also Sruti’s 40th year of publication ( it is now wholly online) and this milestone will also be celebrated that evening, said Sukanya Sankar, trustee of The Sruti Foundation
