Auto-driver harasses couple in car in Saibaba Temple zone, then his associate stones car in Alwarpet

A couple who were visiting Mylapore from the Alandur area on Friday late evening had a scary experience in the areas of Saibaba Temple and C. P. Ramaswamy Road – their car was blocked by an auto driver and later, his associate followed them, abused them and threw a big stone on the rear windshield, shattering it.

A complaint has been lodged with the Abiramapuram Police Station.

The couple told Mylapore Times that they had visited Sri Kapali Temple and were headed towards Alwarpet; near Saibaba Temple, the driver of an auto began criss-crossing the car and blocking their path.  The driver followed the car down Dr Ranga Road.

At the C P Ramaswamy Road junction, the couple stopped on seeing policemen at the traffic umbrella and sought help but the police asked them to head to Abiramapuram police station and lodge a complaint.

Just after the couple got back into the car and were about to drive down, a man in his 30s who was on a bike, confronted them, got down, abused them and then threw a big stone on the car’s rear windshield and fled away on his bike.

The couple said that this man was obviously sent by the auto-driver who had harassed them in Venkatesa Agraharam and he must have got incensed after they approached the police at the busy road junction.

“That people can commit violence for nothing has shocked us. This happened in the heart of a busy area of the city,” say the couple who wish to remain anonymous.
