Community college in Alwarpet offers free courses in many medical skills, computers, accounts and more. Admission open to poor students

When young Dhanalakshmi signed up for the diploma course in health assistantship at the Community College  in Alwarpet, she hoped that this course would provide a turn in her life that was a tough one.

This college opens the gates to teens from economically weak sections in the city and outside it.

Having passed the course, Dhanalakshmi got a job at Kauvery Hospital (which also offers hands-on training to students of this college) and earns around Rs.25,000  per month.

The Greater Chennai Corporation Community at Bheemanapet ( behind Winners Bakery) off C P Ramaswamy Road is a project jointly run by the Greater Chennai Corporation, Rotary Club Of Madras East and promoters of Winners Bakery, the Mahadevans.

This college provides many courses and among them are the two-year diploma courses in the following paramedical courses; Health Assistant, Lab Technician, Dialysis Technician, Radiology Technician, Operation Theatre Technician and Ophthalmic Assistantship.

Vocational courses like spoken English and computer software basics, bakery & confectionery training and a course in Tally-GST filing are run here.

Qualification to sign up – a 10th pass / any college UG degree

Says Renuka Mohan Rao, retired senior banker, Rotarian and  chairperson of the college, “We assure 100% placement for all the successful students in reputed hospitals and other Institutions.”

Admissions are now open for the new academic year – there is no fees for chosen students.
