Vaikasi vizha is currently being celebrated at Sri Veleeswarar Temple, South Mada Street Mylapore. It started on May 14 and goes on till June 3.
It rained, after a long spell of summer heat, on May 16 morning, even as the adhikara nandi procession set out on the rounds.
Though the vizha has not drawn big corwds of devotees, the regulars attend the daily events here.
Here are the highlights of the days ahead – May 18: 9 pm – Rishaba vahanam procession. May 19: 4 pm – 108 sanga abishekam. The pancha-murthy vahanam procession starts 9 pm. May 20: 7 am – Ther procession. May 21: 2.45 pm – sukra bhagavan kan-perudal. May 23 evening – Thiru-kalyanam
From May 14 – 23, there are nagaswaram concerts by senior artistes, mostly held in the evenings). May 25 onwards is vidaiaatri vizha – classical music and dance concerts will be held in the evenings; includes nagaswaram by Aridwaramangalam A K Palaniswami and vocal concert by Nithyasree Mahadevan
