Swathes and swathes of water hyacinth and plants in the Adyar river which surround the banks of the Boat Club have been frustrating the rowers at the club.
They are not able to take out the boats for daily practice and rowing.
Rowing coach Hareendra said that the problem exists through the year, in varying degrees but this summer, the weeds are large scale.
“We have had trouble getting the teens at our summer rowing camp to practice in the river,” he said.
The water hyacinth move with the tides in the river and a new swathe comes by from the west side.
Are the rowers paying any amount to the Corp or Govt for using the river? If not they can clean the weeds at their own cost.
