L. Narayanan, a resident of Mylapore for over four decades, passed away on May 12 at the age of 98.
Born in Tirunelveli, he spent his school years in north Parur, Kerala. He completed a year-long course in typewriting and shorthand and this paved the way for his early work career with a prestigious audit firm and with AVM in Chennai.
He then joined the TVS Group in Madurai in the mid-1940s.
Narayanan’s journey with TVS was marked by his meticulous attention to detail and excellent
execution, qualities that helped him rise through the ranks. His dedication led to him being
cherry-picked for the role of executive assistant to the group’s stalwarts, T. S. Rajam and T. S. Krishna of
the TVS family, in Madurai and in Chennai.
As the eldest among ten siblings — a common family size in those days — Narayanan took it
upon himself to ensure the education and marriages of his siblings.
His family said that despite his modest income, he fulfilled these responsibilities with the steadfast support of his wife, Sitalakshmi, who pre-deceased him two years ago.
Their home was always a bustling hub for close and distant relatives, a testament to their open hearts and doors, the family said.
After his retirement, L. Narayanan moved to Chennai to be close to his two sons and daughter.
L. Narayanan, began living on Dr. Ranga Road in 1984. In 2001, he moved to Warren Road (now Bhaktavatsalam Salai). Due to his advancing age, he began living with his sons, alternating between Luz Avenue and Thiruvengadam Street.
