Dr Gayathri Sankarnarayan, a researcher and expert on kolams who resides in CIT Colony, gave a lecture on music and kolam to the members of Friends Club, R A Puram, recently.
She spoke about how she was fascinated by kolams, on her mother from whom she learnt the art in her native Shencottah in Tamil nadu and about her mentor Dr S A K Durga who guided her through the course of her doctorate study.
She explained the varieties of kolam, the similarities between kolam and music. She said, “A song and a kolam can be started and finished at the same time.”
She urged the members to introduce the art of kolam to the next generation as it has many unsung benefits.
Some women who attended the lecture requested Gayathri to conduct a workshop
