K. Arun Kumar, a former Tamil Nadu cricket player, passed away on April 22 in the city. He was 64.
Kumar was a medium fast bowler and played in the state team from 1984 to 1989 and was in the team which won the Ranji trophy, only for the second time – in 1988.
His brother, K. Bharath Kumar, also a top-class cricketer and now senior coach, says that his younger brother studied at Dominic Savio and at St. Bede’s schools in San Thome and honed his cricket skills while here.
He was a feared bowler and a friendly man, Bharath adds.
Arun moved to Mumbai and then to the Gulf on work and in recent years was ill. He finally moved back to Chennai to spend his last days in his favourite city.
