One of the city’s legendary public meeting spaces, the Mangollai in Mylapore was the scene for a large Lok Sabha election themed meeting on Thursday evening.
Congress’ senior leader P. Chidambaram was the star speaker on stage and he was here to support the ally, DMK’s candidate for Chennai South, Thamizhachi Thangapandian who was on stage with people like state minister Ma. Subramaniam and Mylapore MLa, Dha Velu.
Chidambaram’s speech was a long one, targeted at the BJP, talking about drop in jobs and growing inflation and the danger posed to democracy if BJP was voted to power again.
Public meetings like this one draw less crowds and on this evening, the section of North Mada Street upto Ambika Appalam point was packed, mostly with DMK cadres and decked wih DMK flags; here and there were Congress flags and cadres.
More meetings are expected to be held in Mangollai in the days ahead.
