Alwarpet-based Tulika Publishers’ two new books themed on Chennai. They are just the kind that can be gifted for children this summer.
One book is based on the life of spirited Asha who takes people on a ride across Chennai in her auto – from railway station to beach, cricket stadium and more. The book – Asha the Auto-Driver is written by Aruna Shekar. Sandhya Prabhat’s lively illustrations make for a bright and cheery look at the city’s people, its sights, sounds and everyday rhythms.
The second book is titled Painted Walls of Malainagar and is by Shyamala Shanmugasundaram with Anthoni Guruz’s painterly illustrations adding texture to the narrative. The book has been inspired by the mural paintings of a Chennai neighbourhood.
