The rhythmic sounds of Carnatic music percussion beats resonated at the fifth Annual day programme of Pradhosh School of Percussion held recently at Arkay Centre, Mylapore.
Trained by gurus D V Venkata Subramaniam and N. Rajaraman, over 40 students comprising school-going children as young as five and office-goers, performed confidently on the mridangam, konnakol, ghatam and kanjira. Young children dressed in traditional attire and sat through the three-hour programme and seemed to enjoy the music.
This school started with just a handful of students; it now has 70 students learning from online and offline mediums.
Drawing inspiration from their guru and ghatam exponent vidwan T H Vikku Vinayakram, Rajaraman and Venkata Subramaniam say that they have followed the same syllabus and pedagogy of their guru.
Vikku Vinayakram, Triplicane Sekhar, N. Ramakrishnan, and U P Raju who were the key guests praised the duo. The surprise guest of honour was kanjeera exponent Selva Ganesh, who received a standing ovation for being awarded the prestigious Grammy award.
