P. S. Sivaswamy Salai in Mylapore has been the zone of civic headaches and tremors for years – flooding, sewage outflow, badly-maintained road, traffic chaos.
Remember the flooding that severely affected people of this area last December? The MLA had to call for boats to save people marooned here.
Now here comes another messy civic act.
This busy road was milled and relaid a month ago. This road connects Vivekananda College side to Royapettah High Road and the new-look road was welcomed.
Now, this road had been dug up – the section opposite to Metrowater’s pumping station.
Local civic staff say the digging was unavoidable. There was no response from the GCC AE of this zone when called to enquire how and why permit was granted to dig up a just-relaid road.
It is said this civil work is for a sewage pipeline that will connect the pumping station and this work will be on for a week.
