Retired bank executive and philanthropist S. Savithri, 76 years old and a resident of Singari Street, Mylapore passed away on Feb.21.
A Mylaporean for over 50 years, she schooled in Nanganallur and worked for State Bank of India in various offices in the city, retiring after 37 years of service.
Her adopted son V. Shankar said that Savithri was also a social worker and supported youth at orphanages/schools – every year, she gave 10 students scholarships of Rs.10,000 each for their higher studies.
She was also an active member of the Mylapore Ladies Club.
Her late husband, Srinivasaraghavan, a staff at Addison, was a well-known body-builder and trained youth in boxing.
