In 1997, on the 50th anniversary of India’s independence, Shakunthala Jagannathan, trustee, The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, started a scheme called ‘Each One Teach One’ where 50 people were asked to sponsor the education of 50 girls for the next six years.
This has gone on to be a successful project.
This year, the Trust is supporting 2137 students (including some boys) from 11 schools in the city and in Kanchipuram.
The scholarship amount under this project comes to a total of Rs.79,82,000/-.The entire money has been collected from various charitable individuals in Chennai and abroad, says a note from the Trust.
On Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m., Dr. Nanditha Krishan, president, The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation will be handing over the certificates and facsimile of the cheque to each school the Trust supports.
