The community at three San Thome churches got together on Sunday, March 24 for a ecumenical Palm Sunday procession.
The congregations of three local area churches – of San Thome Basilica, the CSI St. Thomas Tamil Church and CSI St Thomas English Church assembled at St. Raphael’s Girls Higher Secondary School campus at 7 am.
People and priests held palms in their hands, a symbolic act commemorating an event in Jesus’ life, and walked down the streets here – each group then branching of to their respective churches for the Palm Sunday services.
Palm Sunday signals the start of the Holy Week that the Church observes – commemorating events that led to the condemnation, crucifixion and death and resurrection of Jesus.
