Grouting by contractors of Chennai Metro is still going on in the Raja Street zone of Mandaveli following Metro’s decision to carry out this operation following some observations in the soil behaviour when the tunnel boring machine (TBM) was at work underground south of Tholkappia Poonga since late December.
Walls of some houses / blocks in the area are also propped up just to ensure things are in order when the TBM resumes boring operations towards Mandaveli.
The grouting has caused some problems in some houses – clogging sewage / water lines. State agencies have addressed these hiccups. Major repairs will be done after grouting is over in this area.
Metro’s line will be laid on an alignment that runs beneath the Raja Street – T P Scheme Road zone, under the densely- habited colonies, leading to the Mandaveli station.
