INTACH’S Chennai chapter is hosting a talk themed – The Monsoon Mountains: Southern Western Ghats – by J. Ramanan & Vrinda Ramanan on Saturday, 3rd February at 6:00 pm at Ashvita’s 4-2nd Street, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore.
The theme – The Monsoon Mountains : The Western Ghats, is older than the Himalayas. It has been declared by UNESCO as a critical biodiversity hotspot on planet earth. The talk will explore the life-giving rivers, the unique monsoons, native flora and fauna as well as legends surrounding these hills, forests and rolling grasslands.
J. Ramanan is an architect, while his wife Vrinda, is an accomplished Bharathanatyam dancer. Ramanan is a passionate landscape photographer. Both Vrinda and Ramanan are mountaineers, trained at The Nehru Institue of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi.
They have been trekking and climbing in the forests of the Western Ghats and the Himalayas, for the past forty years and have introduced over 300 children to trekking and climbing through ‘The Science and Adventure Club’, founded by them and affiliated to ‘The Indian Mountaineering Foundation’, New Delhi.
