The Madras High Court has restrained MGM Healthcare from continuing construction work on a site located off St. Mary’s Road, Alwarpet where it intends to build a multi-storeyed hospital.
The courtdid so saying that the company has not got the mandatory clearances for this work.
The case being heard is based on a petition filed by senior advocate G. Rajagopalan who stated that the construction was causing widespread noise pollution and that this affected him and his family who reside some 150 mts from the site.
A division bench of the Madras High Court, while restraining MGM Healthcare, has impleaded Chennai Corporation in the case as party respondent and asked the commissioner to file a report on steps GCC takes to check such unauthorised constructions.
The court has also asked the TN State Pollution Control Board to report on.steps taken to monitor noise created at major construction sites.
MGM Healthcare recently took over Fortis-Malar Hospital in Adyar.
