A major fire in TANGEDCO’s sub-station near Thirumylai MRTS rail station around midnight has left many areas without power supply now for hours.
The areas that were affected – Dr Ranga Road, Visalakshi Thottam Justice Sundaram Road, parts of Luz Avenue and East Abiramapuram.
Local TANGEDCO staff were able to douse the fire immediately after the flare-up.
This morning, it is said TANGEDCO’s chief engineer from its headquarters, rushed to the spot to investigate and direct restoration work.
This morning, a local asst. engineer of TANGEDCO told Mylapore Times said that power has been restored to all areas save East Abiramapuram which will get supply by 11 am.
Earlier, another TANGEDCO engineer, on condition of anonymity, said that the fire may have started off due to the puncturing of the power cable by workers of Chennai Metro project. Investigation is on.
Residents who are suffering due to this disruption wonder why TANGEDCO cannot ask its staff to respond to calls and update people in the such dire situations.
Said Karthik Bhat: “TANGEDCO has most mobile numbers of consumers. Wonder what stops them from giving proper updates on the situation, especially when they send out messages on scheduled maintenance.”
Said Ganapathi Vibhu: We kept calling the complaint numbers – 24994310/28112526/9445850787 but they have all been unreachable. Absolutely callous by TANGEDCO.”
