The 14th of February will be observed as Ash Wednesday by the Christian community. It marks the beginning of the Lenten season and will culminate with Easter, the day of the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Local churches hold special services. The timings of these services at some neighbourhood churches are listed below.
Our Lady of Light Church in Luz will have 3 Masses – 6 am and 12 noon in Tamizh and 6.30 pm in English.
Our Lady of Guidance Church in R. A. Puram will have 2 Masses. 6 am in Tamizh and 6.15 pm in English.
Our Lady of Visitation Church in Abiramapuram will have two Masses at 6.30 am and 6.30 pm both in Tamizh.
CSI Saint Luke’s Church in Mandaveli will have a single service at 6.30 pm.
CSI Saint Thomas Tamil church will have two services. One at 6.30 am and the other at 6.30 pm.
During the Mass, there will be smearing of ashes by the priests on the forehead of people to symbolise that man is dust and to dust he shall return.
The Way of the Cross services and Lenten pilgrimages will be held in churches during this season.
