Mandaveli’s Raja Street turned into a festival mela zone last Sunday as the community got on to the open spaces to celebrate the Pongal festival.
This was an event got up by the Residents’ Welfare Association ( RWA).
The theme for the kolam competition was “Kaappu – Protectors”. 12 teams participated in the competition this year. Protectors were depicted right from mobile apps for safety, the armed forces, spirituality as an angle of protection and more.
The councillor of Ward 171, Geetha Murali was the chief guest at the event – she awarded prizes to the winning teams and participants.
The first prize winner this year was the guest team from Madhavaram “Team Heart”, the second prize was awarded to Raja Street’s team “Akai” and the third prize was bagged by team “Kavitha” which was also from Raja Street.
Traditional games like Uri adi, kudam balancing and tug of war were organised for children and for seniors.
Food stalls were also setup.
Residents from in and around Raja Street, Velayutharaja Street and some parts of Mylapore visited this zone and took part in the events.
