R Sivakumar, senior chartered accountant, passed away on December 14.
He was 70.
He was a resident of East Abhiramapuram, Mylapore and a partner at Karra & Co., one of
the leading chartered accountant firms.
Sivakumar was a doyen in the CA fraternity in Chennai. His colleagues said he was very knowledgeable and a kind-hearted soul, rendering humanitarian assistance and support to the needy.
Colleagues said he was a thorough professional in his line of work with unquestionable sincerity and integrity.
‘He was also passionate in teaching – he was a beacon of light and hope to countless students battling the relentless pressure in their pursuance to clear the tough exams of the Institute,’ a tribute note shared by his colleagues said.
He was a man of letters, proficient in English and in Tamil and had authored a few books and had written articles in Kalaimagal magazine.
A notable publication was his book on his mentor, late D. Rangaswamy, past president of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, under whom he underwent training (articleship).
RS, as Sivakumar was fondly called, was an alumni of two notable institutions in Mylapore,
Pennathur Subramania High School ( PS HS, R K Mutt Road – 1968 batch) and Vivekananda College, Mylapore – B.Com -1972 batch .
He had served both the institutions in later years.
In 2013, he was inducted as Hony. Member of PSES ( Pennathur Subramania Iyer
Educational Society) and in 2015 became trustee of P. S . Charities besides being reasurer
of PSES .
He also served, first as correspondent of P S High School (North) and later as correspondent of P S Senior Sec. School as well.
From 1999, he served as treasurer, and managing committee of Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapeeth, Chennai ( controlling centre for Vivekananda College) for more than a decade.
He helped countless poor students in P. S. High School – financially; often donating from his purse.
To commemorate his dedication, a memorial lecture is being organised at the
Vivekananda College, Mylapore January 2, 2024 at 6.30 p.m.
