People who are familiar with Arundel Street in north Mylapore will also be aware of the Sri Valampuri Vinayagar Temple which stood at a mid-point on this busy street.
Its location set off the by-streets of Paripoorna Vinayakar Koil Street and Powder Mill Street .
This temple was demolished a fortnight ago .
Some residents said that the management of this temple was keen to rebuild it. Others say it was pulled down and will be redesigned to accommodate traffic movement.
For months now, when Kutchery Road was closed to accommodate Chennai Metro work on the rail line and station, this street got extra busy.
The construction of a new temple started a week ago and the work is expected to be completed in four to five months .
There is a large, old arasa maram alongside the temple which has also been a part of the local environment. Hopefully, it does not get damaged in the construction work here.
