Over 20 civic workers of Urbaser Sumeet have cleaned the Chennai Corporation cemetery on St. Mary’s Road on the eve of All Souls Day that Christians mark on November 2, a day to pray and remember the dead in their families.
This sprawling cemetery is set apart for Christians but during the pandemic period, with a string of burials here, there was no space left for fresh graves and so the civic body has stopped burials save for those who reuse graves where their family members have been buried over 7 years ago.
The workers spent a few hours on the campus, getting rid of weeds and waste all around.
Special prayer services will be held here on Nov.2. when lots of families will visit the campus to pay flowers, light candles and pray at graves.
